Snapdragon 865 coming to Xiaomi Mi 10, OnePlus 8, Galaxy S11 | 200MP cameras & faster gaming performance

Big Braking:
Cualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 at the Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii, and the initial impressions about these chips point to a major focus on 5G connectivity. The flagship-grade Snapdragon 865 promises a substantial gain in performance over the outgoing Snapdragon 855 Plus and mobile gamers will have a lot to look forward to from the next-gen phones. But which phones will get the new Snapdragon 865? An easy guess is naming all the flagships for next year but Xiaomi has already confirmed its first 2020 flagship phone using this chipset.

At the Snapdragon Tech Summit in Hawaii, Xiaomi took to the stage to announce that it will launch its flagship Mi 10 early next year and it will use the Snapdragon 865. That’s a surprise given that it was expected of Xiaomi to bring this chip first to its Redmi K30 Pro before any other Mi series phone. But that’s how it’s going to be, with the Mi 10 being one of the first few phones to feature the Snapdragon 865 chipset.

But Xiaomi won’t be the only company with this shiny new chip. As has been the norm every year, all flagship phones from major players will come out with new handsets flaunting the Snapdragon 865 chipset. And a few of the first ones are easy to guess.

Samsung could be the first one to globally come out with the Snapdragon 865 powered Galaxy S11 series. The Galaxy S11 is expected to make use of the Qualcomm chip in the North American markets while Asian markets could still be getting the Exynos chips. Moreover, that means 5G support will be uniform for all the Galaxy S11 series models.

Motorola also confirmed that it will launch a high-performance 5G phone in 2020 that will be the fastest Android phone of its time. Motorola will also use the Snapdragon 765 chipset for some of the affordable phones. Oppo will also launch a flagship device using the Snapdragon 865 chipset in the first quarter of 2020. Nokia's Juho Sarvikas has so far confirmed that it's going to use the Snapdragon 765 chipset in one of its 2020 smartphones.

Once the Galaxy S11 enjoys its limelight, OnePlus could come out early in 2020 with the OnePlus 8 series phones. The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro are expected to use the Snapdragon 865 chipset. Given that the chip has to use a 5G modem, OnePlus along with Realme and Xiaomi could be the first ones to bring 5G connectivity to the Indian shores, even though the 5G networks aren’t yet ready in the country.

And that’s not all. Later in the year, successors to the popular flagship models will also use the Snapdragon 865 chip. From Samsung, you can expect the Galaxy Note 11 series as well as the Galaxy Fold 2 to feature the chipset. Xiaomi itself could use the chip again in the Redmi K30 Pro as well as the highly hyped Poco F2. OnePlus could also use it once more for the OnePlus 8T series later in 2020. Asus could end using it for the Asus 7z/ZenFone 7 and the ROG Phone 3. A couple of gaming phones from Black Shark, Nubia and iQOO could also use the chip.

The Snapdragon 865 brings superior AI processing, support for up to 200-megapixel cameras, better performance while gaming, support for up to 144Hz display and more. And the chip will have complimentary support for 5G connectivity with the X55 5G modem.
